Hi: I just read this entry you posted in June (when Obama was just nominated...) and wonder if you could publish the template file you used and the link to astore, to build a bookstore as the example in http://rosecitygardens.com/books/.
Thanks!

Well, because I was trying to create a liquid theme that didn't give a horizontal scroll in smaller resolutions, it took me quite a while. I only got halfway through my project when I shelved it, due to issues other than Magento, though.

Now, in retrospect, I would recommend that one read ALL the available documentation, then read it again. It's a lot more complicated than WordPress, MUCH. There is a comprehensive user guide written by a German fellow, but I don't speak German!

So my answer would be - a few days if you work with the default fixed width (which I believe is 1024 or 980 pixels), and more than a few if you try to alter that and have to comb through countless bits of style and html.

I would be interested to see what you came up with, Wessel, please do post when you complete your Magento theme. :D

Hi, I'm an old hand at Wordpress, have even designed, or rather redesigned Wordpress MU themes.

How long do you think will it take to get your head round the themes and CSS of Magento from scratch?

How long do you think will it take to install and customise a version. Please assume all my time is free.

AFter I wrote this post, I watched King of the Hill, which was about "Green Marketing" and carbon offsets. It pretty much backed up my point of view!

Ha! Vindicated by Hank Hill! Who would have thought? ;)

BRAVO!!! I've wondered myself about that "Green Hosting" bit. I've seen some firms charge quite a bit more too.

Thanks for the article...

I was surprised when I got it, it was a slim little volume. But every word was valuable - it was very to the point, non-technical writing that was easily understandable. I really do highly recommend this book - it's probably the only one I will ever recommend since you can learn almost anything on the Net.

What type of server are you hosted on? Looked at your site - Windows, right? You should move to me! :) I customize sites free if you pay a year in advance.
